We are looking for up to three new volunteer members to join our vibrant Board of Trustees, including someone to step into the role of Chair.
Currently we are a team of 6, with expertise in areas including marketing and communications, finance, environment, strategy and fundraising. As a guide, the typical trustee commitment is in the region of 5 hours per month, with the time involved for the Chair around double this. Current trustees represent both public and voluntary sectors, and bring local knowledge and connections within Walthamstow and neighbouring areas. The Board is friendly and committed and will actively support newcomers through induction and beyond.
Existing governance in FRP is strong, with well-established approaches for boards and sub-committees. The main Board typically holds 5-6 evening meetings per year; the key responsibility is to engage actively in these meetings which set the direction and review key decisions for the organisation. There are also smaller working groups (related to areas such as finance, marketing, and strategy) linked to trustees’ interests, skills and the organisation’s development needs, and to provide ad hoc advice or support between meetings.
We are in particular seeking trustees who offer expertise in one or more of:
- private-sector business/enterprise/operations: as a social enterprise and charity, we need to constantly evolve and challenge our business models to remain successful
- personnel: the Board is responsible for oversight of the executive director and his staff, and to support decision-making on resource planning and recruitment
- finance: we are keen for one new trustee with confidence on finance matters to join our standing finance sub-committee and support our existing Treasurer.
From you we’ll look for commitment to FRP’s vision and aims, a willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to fulfilling the role, and the ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
A role description and further background are provided below. To follow up your interest, please email Fitzroy Andrew, FRP’s Executive Director at fitzroy(at)frponline(dot)org(dot)uk with a comprehensive CV and supporting statement explaining how your skills and experience match the requirements of the role. Ben Lumley, one of our current Trustees, is happy to be contacted for an informal discussion on blumley(at)gmail(dot)com.
We will remain open to expressions of interest in becoming a Trustee until at least the end of February 2016. Applications will be acknowledged upon receipt, and will be considered within seven days.
