Pixel Pancho creates first mural for Colour the Capital

Pixel Pancho creates first mural for Colour the Capital

Tuesday 10th March 2015

Colour the Capital kicks off with its first mural on Kingsland High Street, Dalston. The creator of the mural is Pixel Pancho; an Italian artist from Turin. He has a background in Fine art; studying at the Academy of Fine arts in Albertina. This background allows his practice to be expansive; one that incorporates both street art and fine art, with inspirations ranging from Jenny Saville to Axel Void. The mural took two days to transform the bare wall; using traditional methods of painting as opposed to spray paint, Pancho managed to reuse 50 litres of reclaimed paint that would otherwise end up in landfill. The paints used are of similar colours to the building; making the mural in keeping with its surroundings. Walking up to the mural; you meet two humanoid robots alluding to their robotic nature only when you see that the skin is stripped away; revealing a mechanism of coils and cogs underneath its surface. His interest in the duality between human and technology comes from a young age; where he would watch animated videos of robots, seeing the robots as extensions of the human body. His work can be seen as a celebration of this duality. Alongside this mural is his first exhibition in London; ‘Memory of Our Life’ at Stolen Space Gallery from the 13th of March to the 12th of April. He will be taking over gallery 2, transforming it into a surreal robotic environment.
