These may be straitened times, but there’s no need to give up on home improvements when low cost paint is on offer. Here at FRP we’re prompting what is fast becoming a national trend for reusing paint and upcycling furniture, and you can get in on the action by sourcing your low cost paint from 2c Bakers Avenue. You’d be in good company, as reclaimed paint recently caught the attention of Channel 4 presenter Kirstie Allsopp, when Community RePaint East London’s paint was used in Kirstie’s TV show to help redecorate a young couple’s first home.
Kirstie’s series Fill Your House for Free demonstrates how easy it can be to furnish and redecorate your home on a minimal budget, by using recycled and reclaimed materials and furniture.
Community RePaint was also featured on the Channel 4 TV programme Superscrimpers last week. In the popular show, now well into its 8th series, Mrs Moneypenny and her team of scrimpers show viewers how to bolster bank balances while saving on household essentials. The scrimpers, often in an effort to make up for overspending, learn life skills and crafts which allow them to transform their homes simply yet effectively.
In Episode 14 of Series 8, furniture restorer Jim teaches a team of scrimpers how to upcycle furniture, using reclaimed paint from CRP Bury. The team learn that instead of throwing away a tired old chest of drawers, a greener and thriftier alternative can be to thoroughly sand wooden furniture down before using reclaimed paint to give it a new lease of life. Adding stencils, scraps of wallpaper or decoupage over your finished piece can turn that ordinary coffee table into a unique decorative statement - and all without breaking the bank!
The high ratings of Fill Your House for Free and Superscrimpers go to show that reclaimed paint is becoming more and more of a desirable option for those wishing to cut back on household costs. At FRP, the vast array of colours we have could go a long way towards giving your home - and its furnishings - an attractive and budget-defying makeover.
