FRP is looking for Trustees

We are looking for up to three new volunteer members to join our vibrant Board of Trustees, including someone to step into the role of Chair.

This position offers the opportunity to play a central role in helping Forest Recycling Project succeed in the future. Trustees help ensure the organisation is run effectively and support staff to take key decisions for our work. As well as sharing your existing skills and experience, being a trustee offers an opportunity to develop yourself in new areas whilst making a real difference in your community.

This is an exciting time for FRP, as we have been successful in bidding for over £150k lottery funding for a new community-based volunteering project for vulnerable adults, in addition to our ongoing paint recycling and other work.

We are in particular seeking trustees who offer experience in one or more of:

  • private-sector business/enterprise/operations: as a social enterprise and charity, we need to constantly evolve and challenge our business models to remain successful
  • volunteering / community outreach: volunteers have always been at the heart of FRP’s work, and we now are preparing a major initiative to help vulnerable adults
  • leadership / strategy: the Board helps set the future direction for the organisation, so these skills are always in demand

Currently we are a team of 6, with expertise in areas including marketing and communications, finance, human resources, environment and sustainability.

As a guide, the typical trustee commitment is in the region of 5 hours per month, with the time involved for the Chair around double this. Current trustees represent both public and voluntary sectors, and bring local knowledge and connections within Walthamstow and neighbouring areas. The Board is friendly and committed and will actively support newcomers through induction and beyond.

The main Board typically holds 5-6 evening meetings per year; the key responsibility is to engage actively in these meetings which set the direction and review key decisions for the organisation. Between meetings there may be requests for ad hoc advice or support, plus the opportunity to get involved in particular projects or working groups (for example on finance or strategy).

From you we’ll look for commitment to FRP’s vision and aims, a willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to fulfilling the role, and the ability to work effectively as a member of a team.

A role description and further background are provided below.

To follow up your interest, please email Fitzroy Andrew, FRP’s Development Manager at [email protected] with a comprehensive CV and short supporting statement explaining how your skills and experience match the requirements of the role.

Ben Lumley, one of our current Trustees, is happy to be contacted for an informal discussion on [email protected].

We will remain open to expressions of interest in becoming a Trustee until at least the end of October 2016. Applications will be acknowledged upon receipt, and will be considered within seven days.
