The Dockland Settlements – Redecoration of Community Centres in East London
The Dockland Settlements is a charity based in East London that provides a variety of health and social activities for the local community including childcare provision, cub & scout packs, judo, aerobics, karate, special needs football and a pensioners’ club. These activities take place at their three community centres in Stratford, Rotherhithe and the Isle of Dog.
In June 2011, The Dockland Settlements approached FRP to see if the Community RePaint project could assist with providing affordable reuse paint to brighten up the interiors. Docklands Settlements joined FRP’s RePaint Membership Scheme and used 150 litres of reuse emulsion paint in a variety of colours to redecorate the community centres to improve their appearance to encourage the ongoing use of the space for current and future activities by the local community.
By joining the Membership Scheme, the charity saved £100 on the cost of buying reuse paint, and significantly more when compared to the cost of new paint.
More information about the work of The Docklands Settlements can be found at www.docklandsettlements.org.uk, or contact 020 8534 4121.
“Community RePaint not only provided us with free paint but allowed us to give our half full tins of paint back freeing up valuable space at our centres and ensuring that the paint itself doesn’t go to waste. Our Centre looks much brighter and cleaner and all our user groups are much happier as a result. It’s a great way for Charities to save money whilst helping the environment and we are delighted we signed up to the scheme.” Ben North, Operations Director
Trinity Homeless Projects – Redecoration of Shared Hostel Accommodation & Furniture Shop
Trinity Homeless Projects are a charity based in North West London which works to achieve transformation in the lives of people suffering the effects of homelessness and exclusion. The charity provides supported housing, and offers training and employment opportunities.
Trinity manage 20 properties in LB Hillingdon and LB Hounslow housing 100 people. This includes a number of properties offering shared accommodation which are provided on a fully-furnished basis to individuals suffering from the effects of homelessness.
In 2011, the charity joined FRP’s RePaint annual Membership Scheme as Gold Community Group members entitling the charity and their service users to free reuse paint for a whole year.
150 litres of vinyl matt and kitchen & bathroom paint was provided for the redecoration of kitchens in shared accommodation, and their furniture shop.
As well as saving the charity money, membership of the RePaint scheme enables Trinity to refer the individuals they support to FRP to obtain free reuse paint for decorating their homes.
